The African Confederation of Football (CAF) has declared it won't take further action regarding the map of Morocco, including the Sahara, printed on the RS Berkane jersey until the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rules on its use, according to BBC Africa.
«The Caf club committee believed, according to Caf regulations, there was no issue for this map», Mosengo-Omba said. «The Cas decision [will] guide us how to improve our regulations», he added.
The issue arose in April when USM Alger refused to play the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final against RS Berkane if the Moroccan club wore their jerseys with the complete map. Algerian authorities had already confiscated RS Berkane's official jerseys upon arrival for the first leg, forcing them to wear unauthorized replacements.
CAF ordered the return of the seized jerseys, but Algeria refused. RS Berkane's refusal to wear the unauthorized jerseys led to the cancellation of the first leg. Ultimately, both semi-final matches were scrapped, with CAF's disciplinary committee awarding RS Berkane a win and qualification to the final.
