The Royal Moroccan Boxing Federation (FMRB) has dismissed its technical management following the disappointing performance of the Moroccan boxing team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The decision was made during an emergency meeting held last Friday in Rabat. The federation aims to implement reforms in preparation for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the FMRB announced the dismissal of National Technical Director Othmane Fadli and the entire coaching staff. The federation cited a series of failures, including the men's team's inability to qualify for the African qualifiers, World Championships, and the women's team's failure to qualify for the Olympics.
To oversee the national boxing squad, a provisional national commission has been established. An international search is underway for a new national technical director. These actions mirror those taken by the FMRB following the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Morocco achieved success in other sports at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with a gold medal in the 3,000m steeplechase and a bronze medal in football. However, the boxing team, represented by Yasmine Mouttaki, Widad Bertal, and Khadija El Mardi, failed to secure a medal. It's worth noting that Khadija El Mardi is a world and African champion and the first Arab and African woman to win a world title in boxing.
