After it was initially announced that he had won Morocco’s first gold medal at the Paris Paralympics, Moroccan athlete Abdelilah Gani ultimately received a silver medal in the shot put (F53 category) on Sunday.

The Moroccan delegation appealed the validity of the Georgian gold medalist's final attempt, which was initially not counted. However, the Georgian delegation's appeal was successful, and the throw was eventually validated.

Gani's throw measured 9.22 meters, while the Georgian athlete set a new world record with a throw of 9.66 meters. Bronze went to Iran's Alireza Mokhtari Hemami, with a throw of 8.69 meters.

This marks Morocco's fifth medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, following bronze medals won by Ayman El Haddaoui in the T47 100m, Ayoub Adouich in the under-63kg K44 parataekwondo category, Rajae Akermach in the over-65kg K44 parataekwondo category, and a silver medal won by Fatima Zahra El Idrissi in the T13 1500m race.
