Moroccan Fatima Ezzahra El Idrissi sets world record, wins gold in T12 Marathon at Paralympics

Fatima Ezzahra El Idrissi crossed the finish line in an impressive 2h 48min 36sec, breaking the previous world record of 2h 54min 13sec.

Her fellow Moroccan, Meryem En-Nourhi, secured second place with a time of 2h 58min 18sec, while Spain’s Elena Congost took third with a time of 3h 00min 48sec.

In the men’s T12 marathon, Morocco’s El Amin Chentouf, the defending champion, claimed the bronze medal, clocking his season’s best time of 2h 24min 35sec. Tunisian Wajdi Boukhili won gold with a time of 2h 22min 05sec, just ahead of Spain’s Alberto Suárez Laso, who finished in 2h 24min 02sec.

These performances brought Morocco’s total medal count to a record 15: 3 gold, 6 silver, and 6 bronze medals. The gold medalists include Fatima Ezzahra El Idrissi, Aymane El Haddaoui (400m, T47), and Mouncef Bouja (400m, T12).

Silver medals were claimed by Fatima Zahra El Idrissi (1500m, T13), Abdelilah Gani (shot put, F53), Youssra Karim (discus throw, F41), Azddine Nouiri (shot put, T34), Ayoub Sadni (400m, T47), and Meryem En-Nourhi (marathon, T12).

Bronze medals went to El Amin Chentouf (marathon, T12), Aymane El Haddaoui (100m, T47), Ayoub Adouich (-63 kg, K44), Rajae Akermach (+65 kg, K44, para-taekwondo), Saida Amoudi (shot put, F34), and Azeddine Nouiri (shot put, F34).
