The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, addressed the 52nd meeting of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Union of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UPCI) in Rabat on Tuesday. He reiterated Morocco's unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to independence and the establishment of their own state.
Talbi Alami highlighted the concrete projects undertaken by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, part of the Al-Quds Committee chaired by the sovereign, to support the Palestinian people in Jerusalem. He recalled Morocco's pioneering humanitarian aid efforts to Gaza and its role in founding the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) following the arson attack on the Al-Aqsa mosque in 1969.
The Speaker condemned the ongoing Israeli occupation and its various forms of aggression against the Palestinian people. He emphasized the need for a clear political horizon and negotiations to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, a solution that must be guaranteed by the international community.
Talbi Alami also discussed the importance of the 52nd UPCI Executive Committee meeting in adopting practical, rational, and realistic proposals to address the challenges and crises faced by Islamic countries. He criticized the sectarianism, lack of independence, attacks on territorial integrity, and separatist tendencies that contribute to conflicts in the region.
He emphasized the need for the Union's decisions to be realistic, applicable, and appropriate for member parliaments, based on consensus rather than majority votes. The Speaker stressed the importance of effective and credible decisions that are aligned with international changes and accepted by other Islamic organizations.
Talbi Alami called for greater coordination and openness between the Union and other Islamic organizations, both governmental and thematic, to promote Islamic causes and address misconceptions about Islam. He highlighted the Marrakech Declaration, adopted at the Inter-Parliamentary Conference on «Interfaith Dialogue: Collaborating for our Common Future», as an important international reference document in the field of interfaith dialogue.
