First monkeypox case confirmed in Morocco

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced on Thursday, September 12, 2024, that a confirmed case of monkeypox (M-pox) was recorded in Morocco.

The ministry explained that the case was discovered within the health protocol adopted in the Kingdom since the start of this global health alert. The infected person received the necessary healthcare in a specialized medical center in the city of Marrakech and is in a stable health condition that does not require concern.

The ministry reported that the infected person is receiving appropriate medical care in accordance with the approved health procedures and is subject to close medical monitoring to ensure the stability of his condition. The necessary health isolation and medical follow-up procedures have also been activated in accordance with national and international health standards.

Immediately after receiving the results of the laboratory tests of the confirmed case, the national and regional centers for public health emergency operations, in addition to the rapid response teams, began approved epidemiological investigations to limit the list of all contacts of the infected person. This is to monitor them and take preventive measures to prevent the spread of the virus, in accordance with national and international health safety standards. The contacts have not shown any symptoms so far.
