Moroccan computer scientist Rachid Guerraoui has been awarded the Dahl-Nygaard Prize, a prestigious recognition given annually to a senior researcher in software engineering.
With over three decades of experience as a computer scientist, Guerraoui has held professorial positions at several prestigious organizations, including the Commissariat à l'énergie atomique de Saclay, Hewlett Packard Laboratories, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Guerraoui is best known for his research on electronic transactions, epidemic information dissemination, and forgiving consensus algorithms.
He received the Dahl-Nygaard Prize this week during the European Conference on Object-Oriented Programming (ECOOP) held in Vienna.
«It's a great honor to be recognized by my peers with such a prestigious award, and I'm very humbled to follow in the footsteps of colleagues like Bjarne Stroustrup, Doug Lea, and Luca Cardelli», Guerraoui said.
Professor Guerraoui's recent projects focus on secure distributed storage, robust machine learning, and the computability of distributed algorithms.
In 2019, Guerraoui was appointed by King Mohammed VI as a member of the Special Committee on the Model of Development, established to develop a new development model for Morocco.
