Morocco has won the Bia Cous Cous World Championship, a culinary competition that brought together chefs from 10 countries, local media reported.

Held in San Vito Lo Capo, a small seaside town in northwestern Sicily, Italy, the competition was produced by the Feedback agency and the Municipality of San Vito Lo Capo. Moroccan chefs Chaoui Hanae, an entrepreneur who opened La Medina in Milan, a bistro specializing in Moroccan cuisine and pastries, and Mourad Dakir, chef and owner of Maison Touareg, the first Moroccan restaurant in Milan, won the title after beating the Chinese team and the Doctors Without Borders team, who reached the finals.

«Our recipe is more than just a dish», said Chaoui Hanae and Mourad Dakir. «It is a symbol of family, tradition, and gratitude. This couscous contains the authentic flavors of the High Atlas mountains, in the Haouz province, where each ingredient is carefully selected and prepared with love».

The chefs were presented with the award by the mayor of San Vito Lo Capo, Francesco La Sala, and Francesco Formisano, CEO of Bia Cous Cous, during a show held this weekend.

The competing chefs came from China, Eritrea, Israel, Italy, Doctors Without Borders, Palestine, Russia, Tunisia, and Ukraine.
