On Thursday, the Safi customs authorities incinerated 8.1 tonnes of Chira (cannabis resin) along with other prohibited products recently seized by customs officers, the Royal Gendarmerie, and the judicial police.

The destruction operation, conducted at a facility in the rural commune of Had Hrara, approximately 35 km from Safi, also involved 858 kg of kif, 1,240 psychotropic tablets, 0.5 grams of cocaine, 120 grams of powdered tobacco, and 100 grams of leaf tobacco.

In a statement to MAP, Abdelbasset El Imami, the liquidator of Customs and Indirect Taxes at the Safi Office, stated that this operation was the result of a joint effort by the provincial district of National Security in Safi and the National Brigade of Judicial Police. This collaboration recently thwarted an international drug trafficking attempt involving 8 tons and 125 kg of Chira, which was intercepted at the port of the Cité des Océans.

«This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by various security services to combat the trafficking of these illicit products, considering their harmful effects on public health and safety», he added.

El Imami also reaffirmed the commitment of the Customs and Indirect Taxation Administration (ADII) to continue collaborating closely with relevant services to ensure public safety.

The incineration of these products was conducted under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor's Office attached to the Safi Court of First Instance, with the presence of a commission comprising representatives from local authorities, civil protection, and various security and health services in the province.
