A Madrid court has denied an urgent request by two Sahrawis to halt their deportation to Morocco along with 19 others detained in the asylum halls at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport.

According to Spanish news agency EFE, the two young men were part of a group detained in the airport lounge, where 21 individuals were scheduled to board a midnight flight. The other two activists attempted to prevent the deportation by filing an urgent court request, but it was rejected due to insufficient evidence of persecution in Morocco.

Despite having their international protection applications denied, legal sources reported that 16 Sahrawi asylum seekers were deported last Friday.

The sources noted that another similar deportation is planned for next Thursday and that the Interior Ministry is reviewing each case individually based on national and international standards of international protection.
