Translated into Arabic by Mustafa Aarab at the request of the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME) and Sochepress Editions, the book Rahma: The Path to My Freedom by Moroccan-Dutch author Rahma El Mouden is now available in bookstores and online, both in Morocco and internationally. Originally published in Dutch in the Netherlands, the Arabic edition aims to make the book more accessible to Moroccans worldwide, according to a press release received by Yabiladi.
Born in Tangier in 1958, Rahma El Mouden left Morocco at 16 to pursue her dream of living in the Netherlands. «She started out without knowing the language or culture, and today she heads one of the largest cleaning service companies in the Netherlands, embodying a remarkable journey defined by ambition, resilience, and self-discovery», the press release notes.
In her book, the author delves into the challenges and victories of a young Moroccan girl seeking freedom, independence, and self-empowerment. «It engages readers on contemporary issues such as gender, culture, identity, and equality, while representing the resilience and success of a Moroccan woman beyond her homeland», the statement highlights.
Rahma El Mouden offers a unique perspective on women's experiences through her personal journey between Morocco and the Netherlands, weaving together roots and openness across her two cultures. She shares that she learned «never to give up, whether in Tangier», her home town, «or in Amsterdam, where [she] built [her] freedom».
