Following his arrest, Fouad Abdelmoumni, a Moroccan human rights activist, will face charges under conditional release of «insulting constituted bodies, disseminating false allegations, and reporting a fictitious crime». The Casablanca Court of First Instance has scheduled a trial hearing after completing the necessary interrogations.

The Public Prosecutor's Office has assured that the trial will adhere to legal procedures and uphold the principle of presumption of innocence. The focus of the case will be on the alleged dissemination of harmful information that exceeds the bounds of free speech.

Abdelmoumni's arrest came after he posted comments on social media about French President Emmanuel Macron's recent state visit to Morocco, touching on topics such as relations with France, the Pegasus affair, and previous diplomatic tensions.

The Instance marocaine de soutien aux prisonniers politiques, an organization where Abdelmoumni is a coordinator, has denounced the arrest as an authoritarian act targeting a former political prisoner. Similarly, the Fédération de la gauche démocratique (FGD) party, of which Abdelmoumni is a member, has condemned the arrest as a violation of freedom of expression.
