European Commission still analyzing CJEU rulings on Morocco-EU deals

The European Commission «continues to analyze» the European Court of Justice's rulings of October 4, which excluded the Sahara from the agricultural and fisheries agreements concluded in 2019 between Morocco and the EU.

The announcement was made by a member of the European Commission at a meeting of the European Parliament's Agriculture Committee, in response to MEPs who called for a total revision of the association agreement with the kingdom, according to an Iberian media outlet.

French parliamentarian Eric Sargiacomo, from the Socialist group, demanded that the European Commission establish a system for monitoring the labeling of products originating from the Sahara, in line with the CJEU rulings handed down on October 4.

For the record, a few hours after the announcement of the CJEU rulings, the European Commission emphasized in a press release that it was «currently analyzing the rulings in detail».

It added, «We take note that the Court of Justice of the European Union preserves the validity of the agreement on agricultural products for a further period of 12 months. In close cooperation with Morocco, the EU firmly intends to preserve and continue to strengthen its close relations with Morocco in all areas of the Morocco-EU partnership».
