The African Development Bank (AfDB) has pledged a €650 million (approximately 7 billion dirhams) financing package to support Morocco's preparations for the 2030 World Cup, announced the Bank's President, Akinwumi Adesina, in Rabat on Thursday.
«To assist Morocco's preparations for the 2030 World Cup, the AfDB will soon submit for approval a €650 million financing project focused on developing rail and airport infrastructure, thereby boosting Morocco's competitiveness», he stated following a meeting with the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.
Reaffirming the Bank's continued support for Morocco's structural reforms, Adesina highlighted that the Kingdom is the institution's principal partner, with an active portfolio of 37 projects totaling $3.6 billion, spanning strategic sectors such as infrastructure, energy, water, sanitation, and the private sector.
«This year, the AfDB approved $1.5 billion in financing for the Kingdom, underscoring the significance of this partnership», he added.
Discussions with the Head of Government also addressed challenges related to youth employment and skills development, with the AfDB committing to support Morocco in these key areas.
On this occasion, Adesina expressed his gratitude to King Mohammed VI for his support of the Bank, particularly in hosting the Africa Investment Forum (AIF), which is taking place in Rabat until December 6.
