On Thursday in Rabat, the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, received the President of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, who is on a working visit to Morocco to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, both parties emphasized the longstanding, privileged relations between Morocco and France, which were further strengthened following the signing of the Enhanced Exceptional Partnership declaration by King Mohammed VI and President Emmanuel Macron on October 28, 2024. This partnership aims to enable the two countries to better address the challenges they face by mobilizing all sectors of bilateral cooperation, according to a press release from the Prime Minister's Office.
Aziz Akhannouch expressed his appreciation for France's support of Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara and its backing of the autonomy initiative within the framework of the Kingdom's territorial unity as the only basis for resolving this regional dispute. He also highlighted the importance of the Morocco-France partnership in Africa, particularly in light of King Mohammed VI's vision for the continent, the same source added.
The meeting also underscored the importance of consultation and coordination on parliamentary issues of mutual interest, as well as strengthening the mechanisms and roles of the Morocco-France Parliamentary Friendship Group.
The meeting was attended by the Vice-President of the French National Assembly, Naïma Moutchou, the Secretary General of the Assembly, Damien Chamussy, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Bruno Fuchs, and the French Ambassador to Rabat, Christophe Lecourtier.
