The consumer price index (CPI) has seen a 0.8% increase in November compared to the same month in 2023, as reported by the Haut-Commissariat au Plan (HCP).
This change is attributed to a 0.8% rise in the food index and a 0.7% increase in the non-food index, according to the HCP's latest information note on the November 2024 CPI.
For non-food products, the variations ranged significantly, with transport seeing a 3.8% decline, while housing, water, gas, electricity, and other fuels saw a 3.6% increase, the report indicated.
In comparison to October 2024, the CPI decreased by 0.2%, driven by a 0.4% drop in the food index and a stagnation in the non-food index.
The decline in food prices between October and November 2024 was primarily seen in fruits, which fell by 5.3%, vegetables by 1.1%, fish and seafood by 0.8%, and mineral water, soft drinks, fruit, and vegetable juices by 0.6%.
Conversely, prices increased by 1.3% for oils and fats, 1.1% for milk, cheese, and eggs, and 0.5% for coffee, tea, and cocoa. Among non-food products, the most significant decrease was in fuel prices, which dropped by 1.5%.
The most notable CPI decreases were recorded in Al-Hoceïma (0.9%), Safi (0.8%), Beni-Mellal and Errachidia (0.7%), Tétouan, Tanger, and Settat (0.6%), Marrakech (0.4%), Oujda (0.3%), Kénitra (0.2%), and Casablanca and Meknès (0.1%).
In contrast, increases were observed in Laâyoune and Dakhla (0.5%) and Agadir and Fès (0.3%). Under these circumstances, the underlying inflation indicator, which excludes products with volatile prices and those subject to public tariffs, rose by 0.2% in November compared to October 2024, and by 2.6% compared to November 2023.
