In a decisive showdown on Sunday, Moroccan international striker Zakaria Aboukhlal propelled Toulouse to a crucial victory over Lens with a solitary goal in the 16th round of the French football championship.
Aboukhlal found the back of the net in the 73rd minute, confidently converting a penalty kick he earned himself after being fouled in the box. This goal marked his sixth of the season, highlighting his pivotal role in Toulouse's offensive lineup.
Lens faced a challenging situation, playing with only ten men from the 61st minute after Portuguese midfielder David Pereira da Costa was sent off. Da Costa had entered the match early in the second half, replacing fellow Moroccan Anass Zaroury.
This victory marks Toulouse's second consecutive win, following a 2-1 triumph over Saint-Etienne in the previous round, where Aboukhlal also scored the decisive goal in the 85th minute. Toulouse has now secured their seventh win of the season, accumulating 24 points and climbing to eighth place, just behind Lens on goal difference. This defeat represents Lens' fourth loss of the season.
