On Monday, the Beni Mellal Court of First Instance delivered its verdict concerning the murder of a police officer during a security operation in Beni Mellal last December. The court sentenced the primary defendant to four and a half years in prison, while a co-defendant received a two-and-a-half-year sentence.

The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, December 17, as law enforcement attempted to apprehend the 34-year-old suspect, who was wanted in connection with four separate cases involving the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances across the nation.

During the arrest operation, the suspect resisted violently, wielding a bladed weapon and posing a significant threat to the safety of the officers on the scene. In response to the escalating danger, an anti-gang officer drew his service weapon. Unfortunately, this led to an accidental discharge, striking a fellow police officer who succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to the hospital.
