King Mohammed VI pardons 1,304 people on Independence Manifesto Day

In a gesture marking the Independence Manifesto Day on January 11, King Mohammed VI has granted royal pardons to 1,304 individuals convicted by various courts across the Kingdom, according to an announcement from the Justice Ministry.

The pardons encompass both incarcerated and free individuals. Among those currently detained, 948 prisoners received clemency:

- 33 inmates were granted pardons for the remainder of their prison sentences.

- 915 prisoners had their sentences reduced.

For those not currently in detention, 356 individuals benefited from the royal pardon:

- 62 individuals were pardoned for their imprisonment terms or the remaining portions of their sentences.

- 15 individuals had their imprisonment terms pardoned, although their fines were upheld.

- 260 individuals saw their fines annulled entirely.

- 19 individuals received pardons covering both their prison terms and fines.

Royal pardons are a customary practice in Morocco, often granted to commemorate national and religious holidays, reflecting the country's tradition of clemency and forgiveness during significant occasions.
