Abdellatif Hammouchi, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance of Morocco, welcomed Javier Antonio Susin Bercero, the Commissioner General of Intelligence of Spain, in Rabat on Wednesday. This visit marks Susin Bercero's first international trip since assuming his new role, underscoring Morocco's pivotal position in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

The General Directorate of National Surveillance (DGSN) emphasized the importance of this meeting, noting that the newly appointed Spanish official chose Morocco as his inaugural destination to bolster bilateral security cooperation. The discussions focused on assessing global terrorist threats, particularly in the Sahel-Saharan region, and enhancing joint counter-terrorism operations between the two nations.

Both sides explored the potential contributions of the DGTS to the success of the 2030 World Cup, set to take place in Morocco, Spain, and Portugal. They highlighted the importance of criminal intelligence and the preemptive neutralization of threats to public safety during the event.

Spain's Commissioner General of Intelligence commended the high level of collaboration with Morocco, acknowledging that Spain has thwarted significant terrorist plots thanks to the crucial and reliable intelligence provided by the DGST. He expressed Spain's intent to continue leveraging Morocco's support in counter-terrorism efforts, especially amid escalating global security challenges.

The communiqué from the DGSN also noted the Spanish official's desire to strengthen joint operations and coordinated arrests within extremist networks in both countries. The discussions revealed a shared commitment to enhancing security cooperation mechanisms to address common threats effectively.

This visit underscores the advanced security partnership between Morocco and Spain and highlights the increasing reliance on Morocco's security model in combating terrorism and extremism.
