«Labour Friends of Morocco» (LFM), was officially launched in London on Wednesday with the mission of enhancing ties between Morocco and the UK's Labour Party, which currently leads the British government.

The group, spearheaded by MP Joe Powell, aims to foster enduring partnerships grounded in shared values and collaborative efforts. LFM's objectives include advocating for stronger diplomatic, economic, cultural, and educational connections between Morocco and the UK.

By encouraging cooperation in sectors such as renewable energy, technology, agriculture, and tourism, the group seeks to create a platform for exploring new opportunities in Morocco-UK relations. With trade expected to hit £3.8 billion by 2024, the group sees significant potential for expanding economic exchanges, particularly in high-growth areas.

LFM also intends to champion leadership on critical issues like climate change, green technologies, and sustainability, aligning with the shared commitments of both nations to address global challenges.

During the launch ceremony, members of the group committed to aligning the interests of both countries, acknowledging Morocco's status as a key ally of the UK and its strategic role as a bridge between Europe and Africa.

«I am honored to chair the Labour Friends of Morocco group» stated Powell, highlighting that his constituency of Kensington and Bayswater hosts one of the UK's largest Moroccan communities, which he is «immensely proud» to represent.

He expressed his determination to collaborate with fellow MPs to strengthen UK-Morocco ties and to provide a forum for discussing issues pertinent to the Moroccan community in Britain.

Morocco's ambassador to the UK, Hakim Hajoui, welcomed the group's formation, emphasizing the historic partnership between Morocco and the UK that continues to thrive. He noted the group's potential to elevate this relationship further by developing new economic opportunities and enhancing cultural and educational connections.

«The Moroccan community in the UK serves as a vital bridge between our two nations, working to strengthen our ties and promote deeper mutual understanding», Hajoui remarked, emphasizing their invaluable contributions to this shared vision of prosperity and collaboration.
