Morocco successfully thwarted 78,685 attempts at irregular migration in 2024, attributed to the robust border and coastal surveillance systems in place, as reported by the Ministry of the Interior.

The Kingdom has been grappling with persistent and escalating migratory pressure amid a volatile regional environment rife with numerous threats, the Ministry highlighted. It was noted that 58% of the irregular migrants originated from West African countries, 12% from Maghreb nations, and 9% from East and Central African regions.

Moreover, a total of 332 trafficking networks were dismantled, according to the same source. These networks are continually evolving their tactics and consolidating their services and criminal activities.

In this context, 14 assaults and attempted breaches were recorded at the Ceuta and Melilla borders, involving a total of over 4,290 migrants.

On a related note, 18,645 migrants were rescued at sea and provided with assistance, medical support, accommodation, and guidance, as part of a more humane approach to border management.

Additionally, around 6,135 irregular migrants benefited from voluntary returns to their countries of origin, coordinated with their diplomatic missions, as part of the protective measures under the National Immigration and Asylum Strategy (SNIA).

These initiatives underscore Morocco's significant contribution to regional security and the fight against cross-border trafficking networks. They also demonstrate its commitment, in solidarity with all its partners, to a collective approach in addressing the challenges of migration.
