The Abraham Accords, bilateral agreements on Arab–Israeli normalization, «were an ambitious platform for creating ties and supporting cooperation and economic development between the countries of the region» before they were «frozen by the war in Gaza», Moroccan Ambassador to Washington Youssef Amrani said.
«Unfortunately, the war in Gaza and the dire situation in the Middle East led to the freezing of cooperation» between Arab countries and Israel, he told Al-Hurra on Wednesday.
The Moroccan diplomat called for «building bridges of cooperation and political dialogue in the interest of security and basic stability in the region», saying, «Enough of wars and tension».
«Our approach is to build bridges between peoples and countries instead of war and crises. We want the Middle East to live in peace and enjoy economic prosperity», he argued.
Amrani declined to comment on Trump's proposal to relocate Gazans to Egypt and Jordan, stating that an upcoming Arab League meeting will discuss this matter. He added, «We do not want to preempt events, and I have no expectations. What is important is our ambition for peace and stability in the region».
