After making a name for himself in karting and endurance racing, Moroccan driver Omar Benhayoun is embarking on a new challenge: rally-raid, reads a press release sent to Yabiladi Thursday.
Known for his precision on the asphalt, Benhayoun is now tackling the vast Moroccan Sahara, one of motorsport’s most iconic terrains. His debut in rally-raid will take place in April 2025 at the CARTA Rally, marking the beginning of an ambitious new program.
Benhayoun, a four-time member of Morocco’s national karting team, has previously achieved international recognition with a second-place finish in Oman’s endurance race in 2021 and a team victory in Qatar in 2023. Now, he’s stepping out of his comfort zone to face the unique challenges of navigation, endurance, and terrain management in the desert.
In this new endeavor, Benhayoun will be joined by co-driver Tanguy Ferreira, a seasoned motorsport professional and Morocco native. Their strong professional relationship, built on years of collaboration, will be crucial for their success.
With the support of his parents and trusted partners, Benhayoun’s rally-raid journey is one to watch as he aims to conquer one of the world’s most demanding motorsport environments.
