Police in Marrakech, in coordination with the Directorate General of National Territorial Surveillance, arrested a 27-year-old French citizen of Algerian descent on Monday evening. He was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the French judicial authorities.
The Directorate General of National Security stated that the suspect was apprehended after his information was cross-checked in the Interpol database, revealing that he was wanted globally under a Red Notice issued by French judicial authorities. He is believed to be involved in a criminal case concerning drug trafficking within a gang and attempted murder.
The statement also mentioned that the suspect was placed under provisional detention pending extradition procedures, and the French authorities were notified of his arrest, in order to proceed with the extradition file.
The statement added that the arrest of the suspect is part of international cooperation efforts in the field of security and Morocco’s efforts to track down individuals wanted internationally for transnational crime.
