The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Mexico's historic political party, has expressed its «solidarity with Morocco's legitimate struggle» to defend its sovereignty over the Sahara.

«Our party is entering a new phase in its international relations, reaffirming its recognition of and solidarity with the Moroccan people’s legitimate struggle to defend their sovereignty over the Sahara», said PRI President Alejandro Moreno.

This statement was made in a post on X following a meeting on Wednesday in Mexico City between the PRI leader and the President of Morocco’s House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, who is on a two-day visit to Mexico at the head of a delegation of parliamentary group leaders.

The PRI president’s stance is particularly significant, as it was this same party, while in power in 1979, that signed Mexico’s recognition of the so-called «SADR».

«In an ever-changing multipolar world, the PRI remains at the forefront, defending Mexico’s interests and promoting a renewed global order», Moreno added, emphasizing the importance of respecting the principles of non-intervention and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

During a special session on Tuesday in Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies, where Rachid Talbi Alami delivered a speech, Deputy Marcela Guerra spoke on behalf of the PRI, advocating for stronger ties between Morocco and Mexico. She highlighted the strategic roles both countries play in their respective regions.

Addressing the lower house of the Mexican Congress, she also underscored the potential of the Morocco-Mexico partnership, which has been built over 60 years of diplomatic relations and reinforced by multiple cooperation agreements across various sectors.

Additionally, she emphasized Morocco and Mexico’s roles as key gateways to Africa and the Americas, positioning them as contributors to stability and international development.
