Morocco's National Airports Office (ONDA) is planning to upgrade Mohammed V Airport by building a new terminal that will become an international hub. This project is part of the «Airports 2030» strategy aimed to make Morocco's airports some of the most modern in the world.
With a capacity to handle 20 million passengers per year, the terminal will be a marvel of architecture and technology. The infrastructure is designed to meet the demands of international hubs, optimizing connection times, baggage handling, and the use of boarding bridges.
One of the major advantages of the project is its direct connection to the high-speed rail line (LGV) Kenitra-Marrakech. A first for Morocco, this rail link will provide easy access to the airport from the country's main cities, significantly reducing travel times and enhancing the hub's appeal.
In addition to the terminal, the project includes the construction of a new runway, 3,700 meters long and 45 meters wide, accompanied by taxiways and aircraft parking spaces. A new 42-meter-high control tower will complement these infrastructures to ensure optimal air traffic management.
Designed over three levels, the terminal will offer an immersive experience, blending comfort, modernity, and Moroccan identity. Passengers will enjoy a wide range of services, including Duty Free shops and green relaxation areas featuring oases and gardens inspired by Morocco's natural heritage.
References to Moroccan architecture are omnipresent: Andalusian motifs, Berber carpets, and traditional arches combine in a contemporary and avant-garde vision. The roof, a true masterpiece, evokes «bejmat» and terracotta zellige, paying homage to the southern provinces.
ONDA plans to gradually launch tenders for construction, with the earthworks tender already underway. The terminal is scheduled for completion in 2029, with an estimated investment of 15 billion dirhams.
This iconic project is also part of Morocco's preparations for the 2030 World Cup, affirming the country's ambition to establish itself as a leading aviation hub.
