According to astronomical calculations, the new moon marking the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal 1446H will appear on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 11:58 AM (Paris time). Based on the observation criteria adopted by the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) since 2013, the crescent moon will be visible that evening in a large part of North America.
As a result, the CFCM confirms that Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated in France on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
Zakat al-Fitr, the obligatory alms at the end of Ramadan, is set this year at 9 euros per person.
However, according to legal opinions and the reference commodities used (wheat, rice, dates, etc.), a contribution ranging from 7 to 12 euros remains acceptable.
Fidya, for those unable to fast, varies according to different legal schools. It can correspond to:
• A quarter,
• A half,
• Or the entirety of Zakat al-Fitr.
Thus, its amount is estimated between 2 and 12 euros.
These differences reflect the diversity of religious interpretations and the fluctuation of food prices across regions. Each person is encouraged to contribute an amount suited to their circumstances and the religious opinion they typically follow.
How and to whom should Zakat al-Fitr be given?
Recipients: This alms is intended exclusively for those in need, regardless of religion.
Local priority: It is recommended to give it primarily to beneficiaries living nearby. However, sending it abroad is possible if necessary.
Deadline: It can be given from the beginning of Ramadan until the Eid prayer.
Means of distribution: Payment can be made directly, via an intermediary, or through a charitable organization.
Strictly charitable use: Zakat al-Fitr cannot be used to fund a mosque or any other structure.
Mosques collecting donations for their operations must clearly specify this and use separate boxes to avoid confusion.
