After 25 years of operating the Tarifa–Tangier Ville ferry route, FRS/DFDS will end its services, with the final crossing scheduled for Sunday, May 4, 2025. The route will be taken over by Baleària, which will offer four daily sailings.
According to Iberian media, the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) awarded the route to the new operator on December 2, with the final green light given in early April. The Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA) lifted a suspension on the concession after rejecting a request for interim measures filed by the Danish company DFDS.
Quoted by the same sources, FRS Iberia Maroc/DFDS expressed gratitude to its partners and the authorities in Tangier and Tarifa for their support and trust over the years, as well as to the customers who have used the service for the past quarter-century. The company will continue to operate its other routes between Algeciras–Tanger Med and Algeciras–Ceuta, reaffirming its «commitment to maritime connectivity in the Strait of Gibraltar».
