Moroccan triathletes excelled at the 4th edition of the Tamuda Bay Eco Triathlon (TBET), which concluded this Sunday in M’diq. In a strong showing, they secured top spots in several events of this eco-friendly competition.
In the «Sprint» event, the Dcheira Municipal Swimming Club (CMND) achieved a remarkable sweep. Yassir Mahassine, who had already won the Olympic race the day before, took first place with a time of 56'56". He was followed by his teammates Abdessamad Hindi (58'32") and Ziad Bouchikha (1h00'48"). A similar scenario unfolded in the women’s category: Islam Bkhibkhi clinched first place with a time of 1h08'51", ahead of her sister Aya (1h09'26") and Samia M’safer (1h11'10").
On the demanding «Triathlon Jbala» course, Yassine Bennis secured the win, followed by Zakaria Hssiki and Mohamed Elyaznasni. Among the women, Rita Benlamine outpaced Houda Hadi.
In the «Para» category, Radouane Nassib, the African vice-champion, dominated the individual event, while the relay was won by the duo of Zineb and Abdessamad.
Event director Othmane Benhalima highlighted the ideal weather conditions on this final day, which saw a strong turnout with over 450 athletes from across Africa and Europe. In total, 850 participants from 18 countries competed in the event over the weekend, which is recognized as Africa’s first ecological triathlon and one of the top ten around the Mediterranean.
Held from May 23 to 25, TBET featured four formats: the elite race (80 km), the Olympic (returning after 2022), the Sprint, and the «Triathlon Jbala», which combines swimming, mountain biking, and trail running in the great outdoors.
