The Hebrew daily Israel Hayom has reported that King Mohammed VI has appealed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to allow the entry of Moroccan humanitarian aid into Gaza.
According to the outlet, Morocco is preparing to send aid—mainly food supplies—by air to Ben Gurion Airport. The cargo will then be transported by truck to the Kerem Shalom crossing. The Israeli National Security Council is currently reviewing the plan, with several ministries assessing its feasibility. The operation is expected to involve eight Hercules cargo planes.
This would not be Morocco’s first such effort. In March and June 2024, the kingdom successfully delivered approximately 40 tons of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip using a similar route.
Amid growing international pressure, Israel has recently announced a daily pause in military operations in densely populated areas of Gaza, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time. Safe corridors have also been designated from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. to facilitate the secure delivery of humanitarian aid.
The ongoing blockade and military actions have led to severe food shortages in Gaza. Humanitarian organizations report that around 20,000 children have been hospitalized for acute malnutrition.
Morocco reestablished diplomatic relations with Israel on December 22, 2020.
