Italian police arrested a 24-year-old Moroccan citizen at Malpensa Airport as he attempted to travel to Bahrain. The arrest was carried out by border police in coordination with the Varese Police Command, following confirmation that the individual was wanted by French authorities in connection with a jihadist terrorism investigation.
The man, previously detained in France for offenses related to extremism, had violated judicial restrictions imposed by the French authorities and tried to leave the country undetected. However, a routine data check through immigration control systems enabled security personnel to identify him just moments before the plane’s departure.
The aircraft had already begun taxiing on the runway when air traffic authorities ordered it to stop. The suspect was removed from the plane and taken into custody.
He was later transferred to Busto Arsizio Prison, where he remains under the authority of the Milan Court of Appeals pending extradition to France.
