The International University of Rabat (UIR) has appointed Professor Mohamed Tozy as Dean of the College of Social Sciences, marking a new milestone in the university’s academic development.
A leading political scientist and sociologist, Tozy is one of Morocco’s most prominent figures in the social sciences. A specialist in religion and political sociology in the Maghreb, he has taught at Hassan II University in Casablanca and Sciences Po Aix (2007–2025), where he also served as Deputy Director for Research and head of MESOPOLHIS (2021–2024).
Author of major works such as Monarchie et islam politique au Maroc (Presses de Sciences Po, 1999) and Weaving Political Time in Morocco (Oxford University Press, 2025), Tozy was also a member of Morocco’s 2011 Constitutional Reform Commission and the Special Commission on the Development Model (2019–2021).
At UIR, Professor Tozy will lead efforts to strengthen the College’s role as a center of excellence and thought on key contemporary issues, through interdisciplinary programs with strong social impact, readsa press release by UIR.
In his remarks, Tozy said joining UIR means contributing to «a public-interest project rooted in a model of delegated public service», adding that he is committed to making social sciences «a lever for Morocco’s development and sovereignty».
UIR President Noureddine Mouaddib emphasized that Tozy’s appointment reflects the university’s ambition «to surround itself with leading intellectual figures whose expertise will enhance UIR’s scientific and societal influence».
