Morocco participated on Wednesday evening in Valencia in a state funeral honoring the victims of the deadly floods that struck eastern and southern Spain in 2024, claiming more than 230 lives.

The Kingdom was represented by its ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich, alongside several Spanish dignitaries and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Madrid.

Presided over by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, and attended by Spain’s highest state officials as well as the victims’ families, the ceremony took place at the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, in an atmosphere of deep emotion and solemnity.

In a statement to MAP, Ambassador Benyaich emphasized that Morocco’s participation in this national tribute reflected a spirit of solidarity. She recalled that Morocco had expressed its full support for rescue and reconstruction efforts from the earliest hours of the disaster, and praised the wave of solidarity shown by the Moroccan community in Spain toward those affected.

Morocco’s participation in this ceremony underscores the strength of the bonds of friendship, good neighborliness, and cooperation that unite the two kingdoms and their peoples.
