Minutes after the United Nations Security Council adopted a new resolution on the Sahara, supporting Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative and recognizing it as a serious and credible framework for resolving the conflict under the Kingdom’s sovereignty, streets across Morocco erupted in celebration.

From Tangier to Dakhla, Moroccans poured into the streets to mark this historic turning point, as the UN Security Council urged all parties, Morocco, Algeria, the Polisario Front, and Mauritania, to resume negotiations based on Morocco’s 2007 autonomy plan.

In Casablanca, crowds waved flags, blasted music, and chanted in joy. Car horns echoed through the city center as women ululated and strangers greeted one another with pride and emotion. The royal speech that followed the UN vote played in cafés across the city, met with applause and smiles.

In Rabat, residents gathered before Parliament, wrapped in Moroccan flags, dancing and chanting to patriotic songs. Similar scenes unfolded in Salé, where groups assembled near Bab Mrissa in a festive atmosphere, as well as in Agadir and Tangier, where United Nations Square turned into a sea of red and green.

Farther south, Laayoune’s main square was filled with crowds celebrating the adoption of Resolution 2797, while in Dakhla, people of all ages joined together under Moroccan flags, chanting «Sawt Lhassan», the emblematic song of the Green March.

In Guelmim, the celebrations echoed through the streets, with residents chanting, «The Sahara is ours, and the King is ours too», in a jubilant show of unity and national pride.
