The German Ministry of the Interior announced on Wednesday the dissolution of the association «Muslim Interaktiv» for its advocacy of a caliphate, which stands in opposition to the country's «constitutional order.» The NGO has been criticized for its rejection of women's rights and its expressed «hatred of Israel». In a statement reported by AFP, the ministry highlighted the organization's «rejection of democratic principles and the rule of law, showcasing a fundamentally anti-constitutional stance».
The announcement followed early morning raids at seven locations in Hamburg, where the association was established in March 2020. The German Interior Ministry accuses the NGO of attempting to «indoctrinate a broad audience» and «rejecting state authority». In this context, Minister Alexander Dobrindt underscored a policy of zero tolerance towards groups that «attack democracy and free society» in Germany.
This operation and the resulting action represent the latest development in the ongoing conflict between German authorities and «Muslim Interaktiv», which has previously faced scrutiny. In April 2024, the group drew over 1,200 participants in Hamburg for a protest against what they deemed Germany's «Islamophobic» policies. The demonstration was controversial, particularly due to banners declaring that «the caliphate is the solution.»
Additionally, German authorities carried out twelve raids in Berlin and Hesse as part of investigations into two other associations, «Generation Islam» and «Realität Islam». This is not the first instance of such measures, as Germany has previously taken action against organizations within its borders. Notably, the NGO Ansaar was banned in 2021 after being accused of «funding Islamist terrorism under the guise of charitable work».
Politically, these developments have bolstered far-right parties, which have centered these issues in their anti-immigration narratives. Following the legislative elections in February 2025, Alternative for Germany (AfD) saw a significant boost, securing second place.
