Just days after the kick-off of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Office National des Aéroports (ONDA) has accelerated the deployment of its digital passenger journey system at Mohammed V International Airport, aiming to ease passenger flows and improve the travel experience during the tournament.
According to an ONDA statement, the system, built on the integration of advanced digital and biometric technologies, has been fast-tracked to ensure it is fully operational throughout AFCON 2025. The initiative is designed to streamline airport procedures, reduce waiting times, and absorb the significant increase in passenger traffic expected during the competition.
As part of this rollout, ONDA, in close coordination with Royal Air Maroc, has installed ten automated self bag-drop kiosks on Level 0 of Terminal 1. These stations allow Royal Air Maroc passengers to benefit from a smooth, secure, and fully digital baggage handling process.
Operating in either «One Step» or «Two Steps» modes, the kiosks enable travelers to complete all procedures independently: check-in, boarding pass printing, baggage tag issuance, and automatic bag drop onto the conveyor belt. ONDA stressed that the system fully complies with airline operational rules as well as current safety and security standards.
In parallel, twelve self-service check-in kiosks have been deployed on Level 1 of Terminal 2. These allow passengers traveling without checked luggage to complete check-in autonomously and proceed directly to boarding areas, helping to further optimize passenger flow management.
Several airlines, including Air Arabia, Air Saudi, and EgyptAir, have already integrated their systems with these kiosks, while other carriers operating from Terminal 2 are expected to join progressively.
For passengers, the benefits are immediate: a simpler, faster journey through the airport. Travelers can check in, print their boarding passes, and drop off their luggage within minutes, without queuing. Those without checked baggage can head straight to boarding after self-check-in.
