Provincial authorities in Sidi Kacem, with the support of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), carried out a humanitarian operation on Sunday to deliver aid to residents and livestock farmers in the rural commune of El Houafate.

The operation aims to ease the impact of recent severe weather and rising water levels that have cut off several areas of the province. It included the distribution of 32 tons of barley and 400 food kits to affected beneficiaries, using supplies sourced from within Sidi Kacem province.

Supervised by the FAR in coordination with the Regional Office for Agricultural Development of Gharb (ORMVAG), the free barley distribution is intended to protect livestock, one of the main economic pillars of the region—amid supply disruptions caused by flooding.

The humanitarian aspect of the intervention is equally central, with 400 food kits delivered to isolated families in El Houafate. The locality, particularly hard hit by rising water levels, is receiving special attention from local authorities to ensure food security for residents cut off by the floods.

Speaking to the Maghreb Arab Press (MAP), Abdellah Amellal, head of the agricultural development district of Mechra Bel Ksiri, said ORMVAG has activated a support system for affected populations as part of broader efforts to address the consequences of recent severe weather in the Gharb region.

He added that the Office is also assisting with the evacuation of residents and their livestock to safer areas, with its facilities mobilized as logistical support points to ensure the safety of people and animals.

At the same time, ORMVAG has launched a large-scale livestock feed distribution operation, particularly in the commune of El Houafate and the douar of El Karia El Mardia, overseeing the delivery of 32 tons of free barley.

The aid targets farmers whose villages are surrounded by floodwaters or whose livestock has been relocated to secure areas. Authorities said the operation will continue to cover all affected zones and isolated villages across the Gharb plain.
