On Wednesday in Rabat, Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka announced that the Oued El Makhazine dam currently holds 1,097.9 million cubic meters of water, with the reservoir level reaching 71.04 meters.

Between September 1, 2025, and February 11, 2026, the dam recorded significant inflows totaling approximately 1.462 billion cubic meters. Of this amount, around 1.031 billion cubic meters, or 71.6%, were received in just the past two weeks, exceeding the annual average by 284%, the minister said during a press briefing following the government council meeting.

Baraka noted that several records were set during this period. These include a peak inflow of 3,210 cubic meters per second on January 28; a water level of 69.30 meters on February 4; a peak flow of 878 cubic meters per second on February 9; a maximum storage volume of 1,117 million cubic meters on February 10, representing a fill rate of 166.2%; and a record reservoir height of 71.59 meters on the same day.

In response to the exceptional inflows, authorities implemented several measures to ensure optimal dam management and infrastructure safety. These included preventive and proactive water releases totaling 832 million cubic meters.

The measures also involved intensifying monitoring operations, with inspections now conducted twice daily instead of once a month. In addition, precise topographic surveys are being carried out using laser technology and drone imaging.

Regarding the Al Wahda dam, Baraka stated that since September 1, 2025, it has recorded inflows of approximately 3.48 billion cubic meters, raising its fill rate from 41.66% to 94.70%. The current storage volume stands at nearly 3.33 billion cubic meters. Exceptional inflows of around 1.39 billion cubic meters were recorded last week alone.

A record daily inflow of 348 million cubic meters was registered on February 4, along with a peak flow of 5,135 cubic meters per second on the same day. Maximum release flows of 2,200 cubic meters per second have been carried out since January 31.

A proactive reservoir management program was implemented, allowing for gradual water releases and the formation of a reserve of 566 million cubic meters by February 3, 2026.

According to the minister, these measures helped mitigate downstream flood risks and enabled preventive releases ranging from 250 to 2,200 cubic meters per second, with a cumulative discharge volume of 1.762 billion cubic meters.
