In Spain, filming is underway for a documentary celebrating the 900th anniversary of Ibn Rochd's (Averroes) birth, with plans to shoot scenes in Marrakech, where the renowned Andalusian philosopher passed away in 1198.

Titled «The Commentator», the film delves into the intellectual and personal journey of this pivotal figure in Arab-Andalusian civilization. Famous for his profound interpretations of Aristotle, Ibn Rochd was instrumental in transmitting ancient knowledge to medieval Europe. His work significantly contributed to the West's philosophical revival, as highlighted by a statement from the University of Cordoba (UCO), a collaborator on the project.

The documentary's production commenced in Lucena, where the philosopher was once exiled, before moving to Cordoba, his birthplace, and then to Marrakech. The filmmakers aim to capture the historical and cultural essence of the locations that influenced «The Commentator», who has become a symbol of intercultural dialogue.

This documentary is part of the events commemorating Ibn Rochd's 900th birthday, supported by various public institutions and accompanied by a year-long program of academic and cultural activities.

The celebrations will culminate in an international congress from April 27 to 29 at the Casa Árabe in Cordoba, where experts from diverse fields will explore the philosophical, legal, and medical contributions of the Andalusian scholar, examining their relevance to contemporary issues.

Through this audiovisual project, the creators aspire to present a work that is both accessible and intellectually rigorous, capturing the essence of Averroes' thought. His legacy as a bridge between East and West continues to resonate through the ages.
