In Salé, King Mohammed VI launched the national initiative «Ramadan 1447» on Saturday in the Al Inbiâate neighborhood. This event, organized by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, marks the holy month of Ramadan. Accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, the King inaugurated the 28th edition of this program, which aims to aid 4,362,732 individuals from vulnerable households.
With a budget allocation of 305 million dirhams, the initiative plans to distribute 34,550 tons of essential food items — including flour, milk, rice, oil, sugar, tomato paste, pasta, lentils, and tea — specifically targeting widows, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
For the second year in a row, the selection of beneficiaries is based on the Unified Social Register (RSU), following the directives of the High Royal Instructions. The updated lists, coordinated with the Ministry of the Interior, encompass 1,304 municipalities. Data shows that 74% of beneficiary households are located in rural areas. Among the one million registered heads of households, there are 432,092 elderly individuals, 211,381 widows, and 88,163 people with disabilities.
Supported by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the operation enlists thousands of workers, social workers, and volunteers nationwide. Provincial and local committees oversee the supply chain, beneficiary identification, and distribution process.
Numerous public institutions, such as the FAR, the Royal Gendarmerie, ONCF, ONEE, and ONSSA, play a crucial role in ensuring the initiative runs smoothly, particularly in terms of transportation and sanitary control of the goods.
Since its inception in 1998, this initiative has mobilized over 2.5 billion dirhams. The number of beneficiary families has grown from 34,100 to one million as of 2023. On Saturday, the King personally handed out food baskets to ten family heads before posing with the volunteers for a commemorative photo.
