On Monday, the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, announced to the House of Representatives that recent rainfall and snowfall have significantly boosted the reservoir fill rate, now reaching 75%, which equates to nearly 13 billion cubic meters.

Addressing an oral question from the Authenticity and Modernity group about the role of water resource management in securing national food sovereignty, Nizar Baraka assured that the current water reserves are sufficient to supply drinking water for periods ranging from at least two to five years, depending on the region.

As for irrigation water, the minister highlighted that, unlike previous years marked by challenges, all requests from the Ministry of Agriculture have been fulfilled this agricultural season in collaboration with the hydraulic basin agencies. In past years, the fulfillment rate for irrigation needs did not exceed 55%.

He underscored that the improvement in water resources this year has enabled a full response to irrigation demands, thereby bolstering efforts to enhance Morocco's food sovereignty.
