The Rabat National Zoological Park recorded births across around 50 species during the first quarter of 2026, including several of high conservation value.
«Among these births are species with significant conservation stakes, notably the dorcas gazelle, the Barbary sheep, and the griffon vulture,» the park said in a press release.
«Other heritage species such as the genet, the baboon, the glossy ibis, the stone-curlew, and the Greek tortoise also highlight the diversity of the park’s animal collection,» the statement added.
According to the release, «these results reflect the quality of the scientific, veterinary, and management systems implemented by the park, and underscore its ongoing commitment to biodiversity conservation.»
The Rabat National Zoological Park is home to more than 2,000 animals representing nearly 170 species, including 28 that are threatened. The facility also runs 22 conservation programs targeting around 50 rare or endangered endemic species.
«In a global context marked by declining biodiversity, these births demonstrate the growing role of modern zoological parks in species preservation, scientific research, and public awareness,» the release emphasized.
It concluded that these births also offer an opportunity to enhance Morocco’s natural heritage and strengthen the park’s appeal as a leading educational, scientific, and family destination.
