Exclusive: MINURSO terminates the contracts of about twenty of its staff in the Sahara

MINURSO is further reducing its workforce. The United Nations mission has let go of around twenty medical staff members, according to a source familiar with the situation who spoke to Yabiladi.

The affected doctors and nurses were stationed at various MINURSO bases in the Sahara and to the east of the Berm. It is worth noting that back in September 2025, the mission had already shut down three of its observation posts in the area.

This move comes just a week after a UN Security Council session on April 30, which focused on a strategic review of MINURSO's mandate. The review process is expected to conclude by next October.

Even before the adoption of Resolution 2797 on October 31, 2025, MINURSO had initiated a significant internal restructuring, driven by pressure from Donald Trump's administration. This resulted in the exit of several high-ranking officials and the removal of a helicopter used for monitoring the ceasefire and accessing observation points east of the Berm.
