In a remarkable display of endurance and speed, Ethiopian runner Boki Diriba shattered the record at the Rabat International Marathon. Meanwhile, Meseret Abebayehu Alemu, also from Ethiopia, claimed victory in the women's category during the ninth edition of this prestigious event held on Sunday.
Diriba clinched the title by completing the marathon in a record-breaking 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 52 seconds. Hot on his heels was fellow Ethiopian Tolcha Tefera, who finished just 34 seconds later. The third spot on the podium was occupied by another Ethiopian, Chalu Deso Gelmisa, who crossed the finish line 35 seconds after Diriba.
In the women's race, Meseret Abebayehu Alemu emerged victorious with a time of 2 hours, 25 minutes, and 3 seconds. Her compatriot, Serash Yerga, secured second place, clocking in at 2 hours, 25 minutes, and 42 seconds. Ethiopian Fentaye Adane took third place with a time of 2 hours, 27 minutes, and 27 seconds.
Morocco's own Kawtar Farkoussi finished a commendable fourth, recording a time of 2 hours, 27 minutes, and 42 seconds. In the men's half-marathon, Moroccan Yakoub Labquira emerged triumphant, completing the race in 1 hour, 1 minute, and 32 seconds. He was followed closely by compatriot Hicham Ouladha, who finished in 1 hour, 1 minute, and 36 seconds, with Mustapha Akkaoui taking third place at 1 hour, 1 minute, and 43 seconds.
In the women's half-marathon, Kenyan Irine Kimais took top honors, finishing in 1 hour, 8 minutes, and 14 seconds. Fellow Kenyan Regina Wambui secured second place with a time of 1 hour, 8 minutes, and 26 seconds, while Moroccan Fatima Al Zahra Birdaha claimed third place, completing the race in 1 hour, 9 minutes, and 29 seconds.
As the competitions concluded, the winners of this ninth edition of the Rabat International Marathon expressed their delight with their performances and the results they achieved. They lauded the high standard of organization and the vibrant atmosphere that characterized the event and its courses.
