The Government Council on Thursday adopted draft decree No. 2.26.395 opening additional appropriations for the general budget, presented by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance in charge of the budget.
The draft decree aims to authorize supplementary appropriations for the general budget, in accordance with Article 60 of the organic law on the Finance Act, said Mustapha Baitas, Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament and government spokesperson, during a press briefing following the Council meeting.
Baitas stressed that the measure was necessary due to the need to mobilize unforeseen additional funding for the 2026 budget year in order to finance measures aimed at mitigating the repercussions of the war in the Middle East. This includes setting aside the necessary provisions to address any knock-on effects should the situation persist.
In particular, the funding is intended to support citizens’ purchasing power by maintaining stable prices for butane gas, passenger and freight transport services, and electricity, despite the sharp rise in global prices for natural gas, fuel oil, and coal.
The additional appropriations will also help finance measures taken in line with royal instructions to address the impact of flooding in certain regions of northern Morocco. They will further support the strengthening of the capital of several public institutions and enterprises, while covering exceptional and unforeseen expenses linked to the international situation.
