The Moroccan Front for Supporting Palestine and Opposing Normalization condemned what it described as the «maritime assault and piracy» carried out by the Israeli occupation army against the humanitarian Sumud Flotilla as it sailed in international waters on May 18, 2026, saying the operation constituted a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and conventions guaranteeing freedom of navigation.
In a statement, the Front said that naval forces affiliated with the occupation army intercepted unarmed civilian vessels that were part of an international humanitarian convoy seeking to break the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip and deliver humanitarian aid. It noted that the operation led to the abduction of several activists, including seven Moroccan citizens.
The Front said that targeting a civilian flotilla on the high seas amounted to «a grave assault on the basic principles of international humanitarian law» and formed part of a systematic policy aimed at preventing humanitarian support from reaching residents of the Gaza Strip, who, according to the statement, are living under a blockade it described as «unjust» and «illegal».
The statement also levelled sharp criticism at the international community, calling on the United Nations and its institutions to act urgently to halt what it described as «repeated violations» and warning against continued international silence over events in the Palestinian territories. The Front added that, in its view, the incident reflects the continuation of a policy of «starvation and collective punishment» against Palestinians, amid international support that it accuses of providing cover for such practices.
In the same context, the Front stressed that the targeted humanitarian convoy was a peaceful civilian initiative intended to express solidarity with the Palestinian people, and that its interception amounted to a «crime of maritime piracy» warranting international condemnation, according to the statement. It affirmed that such measures would not weaken the resolve of solidarity activists or halt efforts to break the blockade on Gaza.
The Front concluded its statement by calling on the countries whose nationals were among the participants, including Morocco, to intervene urgently to press the occupation authorities to ensure the safety of the detainees and secure their immediate and unconditional release. It also underscored what it described as «the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to receive humanitarian aid and break the blockade imposed on them».
