Barid Al-Maghrib, in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, unveiled on Monday a commemorative postage stamp marking Rabat’s designation as World Book Capital 2026.

The unveiling ceremony for the special issue was held at the Barid Al-Maghrib Museum in the presence of Minister Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Barid Al-Maghrib Director General Amin Benjelloun Touimi, the regional director of UNESCO’s Maghreb office Charaf Ahmimed, and several other figures.

The stamp is part of the national programme celebrating the international distinction. Its design combines Rabat’s iconic landmarks, books and a depiction of the globe, symbolizing the city’s openness to the world and its universal cultural vocation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Bensaid said the celebration of the designation further strengthens Morocco’s position as a beacon of cultural and civilizational influence at both regional and international levels.

He added that Rabat’s designation as World Book Capital reflects a royal vision placing culture at the heart of development, with a focus on knowledge and human development.

For his part, Benjelloun Touimi highlighted Barid Al-Maghrib’s commitment to celebrating the prestigious distinction, stressing that postage stamps play an essential role in promoting Morocco’s history and civilization while documenting major national events.

Meanwhile, the regional director of UNESCO’s Maghreb office emphasized the universal and timeless dimension of the initiative, reiterating UNESCO’s commitment to supporting Morocco’s educational and literary initiatives aimed at sustaining this collective momentum.
