The Belgian association Les Amis du Maroc held its annual gathering on Monday evening in Brussels, focusing on relations between Morocco and Belgium. The event brought together political leaders, diplomats, elected officials, and representatives from the cultural, academic and non-profit sectors of both countries.

Guest of honor Boris Dilliès, Minister-President of the Brussels-Capital Region, highlighted the importance of the Moroccan community in Belgium. «In 2025, more than one in ten Brussels residents was of Moroccan origin at birth», he said, emphasizing the community’s contribution to the human, cultural and economic ties linking the two countries.

The Belgian official also underscored the long-standing cooperation between the Brussels-Capital Region and the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, a partnership that has been in place since 2001 and spans areas including health, sports and environmental protection.

For his part, Morocco’s ambassador to Belgium, Mohamed Ameur, welcomed the positive momentum in bilateral relations, recalling the joint declaration signed last October by the foreign ministers of the two countries.

The evening also featured a tribute to Francis Delpérée, former president of Les Amis du Maroc, in recognition of his contribution to strengthening Moroccan-Belgian ties.
