Morocco’s National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) is set to receive €250 million in financing, nearly 2.8 billion dirhams, from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the EBRD’s annual meetings, held from June 5 to 7 in Riga, Latvia. The funds will be disbursed in two tranches and will be accompanied by technical support.

The package is intended to help ONEE modernize its drinking water production facilities and improve their energy efficiency. It also aims to adapt the equipment to the challenges posed by climate change and rising demand for water.

The financing falls under the Office’s 2025-2030 investment plan, which includes several projects designed to strengthen and modernize drinking water infrastructure.

The financing will be backed by the National Company for Guarantee and Enterprise Financing (SNGFE), through its program dedicated to public institutions and enterprises.

Since 2014, the EBRD has already mobilized nearly €119 million for drinking water projects in Morocco. This new financing builds on that ongoing partnership.
